Eating Organic Considered Just Food 50 Years Ago

I eat organic, I have mentioned that in prior posts. Yet it seems to me that when I was much, much younger food was just food. Good food. It was grown in the garden, there were no chemicals poured all over the fields. Seed went into the ground and with sun, water and weeding good crops came out. We ate them. Food was our medicine.
So what has happened? Why do we now have a new food catagory called Organic?
How did the growing of our food become such a manipulated business? Big Agribusiness owning the food seed and controling what we eat and the only way to get around this is maybe we can grow our own?
I just might be time for each of us to begin our own Personal Wellness Revolution and start paying attention to what we eat, drink, think about our food and what it is doing to our health. Just a thought?

Organic Personal Care, do we need it?

I watched CNN last evening and Dr. Gupta had a show that was informative about the Toxins in the Womb of unborn babies.  Here is a shocking piece of the info:   “We’ve measured hundreds and hundreds of toxic chemicals in the blood of babies that are still in the womb,” said Ken Cook, president of the Environmental Working Group, a non-profit environmental advocacy organization. “Flame retardants, the chemicals in consumer products like personal care products, makeup, shampoos. It’s a very long list.”

The EWG study found an average of 232 chemicals in the cord blood of 10 babies born late last year.

This is shocking to me because when I tell people that they must be using Organic Personal Care products they look at me as though I have horns.  Our skin is our biggest organ and we know that medications placed on our skin will penetrate the skin to be effective in the body so why wouldn’t we think that skin care, hair care, men and women’s cosmetics would penetrate the skin and provide our body with toxins?

Five Benefits of Choosing Certified Organic:

1. Good for people! ~ Organic based ingredients have been shown in a number of studies to contain more vitamins, nutrients, and cancer-fighting antioxidants than non-organic ingredients.

2. Good for the soil! ~ Organic systems rely on a modern and scientific understanding of ecology and soil science, while also depending on traditional methods of crop rotations to ensure fertility and weed and pest control.

3. Good for the environment! ~ Organic systems aim at reducing dependence on non-renewable resources. Organic production aims at all times towards sustainability whilst having the best management of the environment and wildlife as a priority.

4. No synthetic chemicals! ~ Organic systems prohibit the use of artificial chemicals, pesticides and fertilisers.

5. No GMO’s! ~ Certified Organic products are produced without GMOs, which are prohibited in the standards for organic food and farming.

Eat Local!

I got to thinking last night after watching a video that Hellman’s did on eating local.  It was posted on Facebook and a few friends after watching it make comments on how now they are going to buy local.  The video went on to explain how much of the veggies and fruits that hit our tables here in Canada are grown else where in the world.  This is a problem because it must be picked too early, shipped many thousands of miles, sprayed and more.  Did you know we are losing farmers, and  local crops because it very hard for small local Farmer’s to make a living.  A couple of years ago I was looking into supplying organic food that is fairly local, within 2 hours of the city and one of the organic farmers was telling me that many farmers would be willing to hire out and work other people’s land so they would have a job rather that farm their own land.

I digress.   The video explained the huge reduction in local food and the consequence of this.  Less than nutritious food is coming to our tables when we buy from the grocery store.  So the friends on Facebook made very positive comments like “let’s start buying local” , “gotta find a farmers market”.  This a great idea however did you know a lot of suppliers at farmers markets go to the local food terminal and buy fruits and veggies for the farmers markets, charge you more and this is the same food you can get in the local grocery store?

Our food supply has become controled by a few very large global corporations.  Somewhere I heard the comment “Control the food, Control the World”

We need to wake up and start taking a look at what is happening to our food.  When we go into the grocery store it is very difficult to buy food that comes from a local source.  We then have to make decisions on what is acceptable for us to eat and what is not.  Eating is not easy anymore and yet it is a basic need for energy, wellness and vitality.

What we do is then look at finding organic food even though sometimes it might not be beneficial from an enviromental point of view.  Now is the time to begin a personal Wellness Revolution.  Now is the time to at least start thinking about your food and how it is impacting you and the world.

What will you do today for your Personal Wellness Revolution?  Will you find a local source of your daily veggies?  Will you buy organic?  Will you stop eating junk food just for today?  Will you go for a walk, a bike ride, lift some weights, or just move in some enjoyable way for your?

Now is the time, are you ready to begin your Personal Wellness Revolution?  Let me know what you will do today.

Organic?

In the last couple of years I have been eating mainly organic food.  I do my very best to get the freshest organic food and when organic is not possible local food.  There has been enough published to indicate that organic is much better for our health, more nutrition dense.  Well lately this has been a point that I have been pondering.  Now I do believe we must eat food that is not grown with chemicals.  I believe that as society we must begin to value our health, our bodies and our future generations and at a most basic level this comes from the  food we eat each and every day.

In Paul Chek’s book ‘You are what you Eat” he indicates: Dr. Virginia Worthington reviewed 1230 published comparisons between organically grown and conventionally grown crops.  The results of her survey indicated that organic crops had higher nutrient levels and lower levels of toxicity in 56% of the comparisons.  So this is a good thing right?  This is the reason to eat organic, right?  Better quality food.  So organic food it will be.

Yes, but this is what I have been pondering.  If organic food has higher nutrient levels and lower levels of toxicity in 56% of the comparisons and we are meant to eat organc what are we still missing from the food in the sense of important nutrition?  What nutrients even with organic are our bodies still needing for our good health.  Is this the reason that adding a good supplemental Multi Vitamin important?

And over the past few months I have been in touch with many, many wellness practitioners inviting them to take a look at the Symmetry products for their clients, their families, themselves and their business and most tell me the don’t believe in, support or advise their clients to take supplements and there have been a number of practitioners who actually have stated it is unethical to advise their clients on supplementation.  They state that food is what they advise their clients on as this is all that is necessary for proper health.  I have had hands on practitioners inform me that the modality they use allows the body to heal itself?  No need to anything else.

So if we want our bodies to heal and be well, healthy, vibrant and only 56 % of the 1230 published comparisons that Dr. Worthington reviewed had higher levels of nutrition and lower levels of toxicity how is this a basis for good health without adding extra nutrition to our daily eating  programs?

I have heard for years that Doctors get no nutrition training.  Then we go to the wellness practitioners, dietitians, hands on therapists and none of them can agree on what is the best for our good health.  So how do you or I know what is best for us?  Who do we get our advice from?  How do we decide what is the best course of action for good health for the long term of our life?  How do we change the Sickness System we are presently living in to a Wellness System where we feel good, and live long healthy lives and our future generations out live us with good health?   Maybe we already know what we need to do for a better healthier life?

We must begin a personal Wellness Revolution.  We must begin as individuals to learn what is in our best interest not that of big business, who are marketing to us in very deceptive ways.  Start asking what is more beneficial for your health and not just believing what is in the media or what your friends and associates are doing.  Maybe start to be a contrarian when it comes to your health, your wellness and your life.  Look at what the sick people are doing and do the opposite.

For me I will continue to eat organic.  I will continue to take my supplements, exercise, drink water, get good sleep, work on a positive thought process daily, connect with friends to enjoy community and also look at other ways I can continue to improve how I feel daily.  How about you?

Will you begin a personal Wellness Revolution today?  Why not begin the dialogue here.  What have you done today for your personal Wellness Revolution?  Love to hear.

Health Revolution: It’s Time To Take Back Your Health

It’s Time To Take Your Health Back With Your Personal Health Revolution

health revolutionIt is my belief that it is time to begin your own health revolution and here’s why. I made the decision that my health is a top priority for me on a daily basis.   There are many reasons for this, however, the biggest reason I feel my health warrants the idea of a health revolution is the old saying “health is wealth”. Do you believe that saying is true? Well here’s the thing, this morning I ran into a childhood friend who I haven’t seen in a while.  She was stressed out.  Her mom had a stroke a while back and she has now become the primary caregiver.  We chatted for a while and I shared with her some of the programs that are available in our community to help her out.

She is in a difficult spot because she has lots of other family members that have opinions on what and how things will be done.  It made me sad for her because she doesn’t realize the position she is in and it is a stressful one.  How do I know?

My Own Health Revolution

I have been caring for a sick, elderly parent full time for 5 years now.  Living with my mom and the immense challenges that come with caring for an ailing parent can be and is overwhelming. I know the stress it can cause.  I know the heartache it can cause.  You see when I first moved in to care for my mother I didn’t even know that I was considered a caregiver? Caring for our parents ages us.  It exhausts us in places we didn’t even know we could be exhausted in.  But there is the help you might require,  and truly this is one place where if you ask you can get help.

When I look at my mom there are many life lessons for me to learn.  Not sure but I certainly am learning about myself, who I have been and the challenges for change.  But it also teaches me about why it is so important for us as individuals to take care of our own health. You see, as young people, we don’t seem to be getting this lesson.  Almost 13 years ago I watch my mom break a hip and take months to recover.  It was then and there that I decided to change my journey when it came to own health. This was the deciding moment in my own health revolution. I was determined to change how I felt, looked and thought. I actually realized that this was my only choice if I wanted a GREAT future.

What Has The Health Revolution Looked Liked?

It has been a long messy journey and I believe it is a life long journey to take care of one’s health.  To me, it is a journey that is well worth the effort.  I see the alternative each and every day and it is no picnic.  In my eyes living an unhealthy life as a young person or an old person is devastating to that human being and all those around them. And there is another way!

As individuals we must begin to see that living with no energy, being overweight, not eating good quality organic food, not drinking water, no exercise are just no acceptable in our life.  As individuals, we must begin to think about what we want when it comes to our own health and that of our children.  We must begin to learn about how to live a healthy life ourselves and then teach our children to make different choices each day when it comes to our health.  And for kids,  they learn by example.  They do what you do.  If you eat crap, so do the kids.  If you decide that exercise will not be a part of your life, so do your kids. Start making better choices now for a better quality life today and for the long term. This is what I mean by a health revolution.

Make It A Self Health Revolution – Look Back To Look Forward

Look to your parents.  How is their health today?  Are they living into their late ’70 and ’80 and beyond with vibrant good health?  I know mine are not and it is my goal to take a different path for me.  What about you?  Are you ready to go down a different path today than you were yesterday?  Are you willing to create your own health revolution? Begin with small changes, drink some water today, maybe have 1 less soda pop, how about not eating fast food today for dinner?  Make a fresh home prepared meal today?

Let’s start a health revolution to make our health future different than our parents.  As a society, we are living longer but we in no way are living better.

For us and for the generations that are following us let’s start a health revolution now and begin to live longer and feel better for our lifetime.  life

Why do you need to take a multivitamin?

I hear all the time from people that if you were to eat right you don’t need a multivitamin and this is correct however who do you know that eats right?  In today’s world it is very difficult and those that are doing better than most still are challenge when it comes to getting all the nutrients necessary because of depleted soil, toxins, pollution and stress just to name a few.
Eating quality organic food is very important and must be our first line of wellness, then by adding a supplement ( I like Ultra Vitality and Genesis with X’Tranol 24) we can be confident that we are insuring our health daily.  Dr. Mark VP of Symmetry asks and answers the question,

Why do you need to take a multivitamin?
This is something that’s becoming more important as we go forward in time because what’s happened is that we’ve gotten away from small farms or people doing their own farming and ensuring that they’re putting good fertilizers in the ground. We’re using all kinds of herbicides and pesticides and then we’re processing the foods.  The US Department of Agriculture have looked at soil and found that it’s vastly lacking in nutrients. Much of the wheat that is grown or even the rice that is grown is going to be lacking in things like zinc because it’s simply not in the ground so it can’t go into the plant. And, because we process things, studies have shown that when you process food like rice (from brown to white) you lose about 81 percent of the zinc. Same type of thing, you lose 78 percent of zinc when you go from brown flour to white flour. And so we have very little if anything in the ground and then we process it and we refine away whatever was there. We end up with something that is really quite lacking in nutrition. It’s essential we put those things back in.

The three major causes of disease in the United States, I like to say, is breakfast, lunch, and dinner. We’re eating the wrong foods, too much of the wrong foods, and in some cases we’re skipping the meals that we need in order to be really healthy. So it’s essential if you want to be healthy that you’re taking a simple multivitamin. It’s a health insurance policy. It’s a life insurance policy to make sure that you feel good.

So if you still are not convinced that adding supplementation to your health program daily is not beneficial in 2002 JAMA said for the first time that we need to supplement for our good health.   Here, in part, is what the Harvard medical school researchers said:

“Vitamin deficiency syndromes such as scurvy and beriberi are uncommon in Western societies. However, suboptimal intake of some vitamins, above levels causing classic vitamin deficiency, is a risk factor for chronic diseases and common in the general population, especially the elderly.

Suboptimal folic acid levels, along with suboptimal levels of vitamins B(6) and B(12), are a risk factor for cardiovascular disease, neural tube defects, and colon and breast cancer; low levels of vitamin D contribute to osteopenia and fractures; and low levels of the antioxidant vitamins (vitamins A, E, and C) may increase risk for several chronic diseases.

Most people do not consume an optimal amount of all vitamins by diet alone. It appears prudent for all adults to take vitamin supplements.”

Notice that it says ALL adults.

Resveratrol Kills Cancer Cells For Your Best Life!

Resveratrol Kills Cancer Cells

resveratrol

I was going through my twitter posts and found a post regarding a natural product resveratrol and how it is helping fight prostate cancer.  Well, that search took me to the National Cancer Institute website.  Once there I googled resveratrol at this site I found this article.  There is valuable info for anyone who has cancer and is looking for a way to kill those cancer cells. It is shown that it might help in the fight against cancer, reduce the tumor incidence and is anti-inflammatory.

Read the article here: http://www.cancer.gov/cancertopics/factsheet/prevention/redwine

Pretty Pomegranate Source of Resveratrol

Pomegranates are one of a great source of Resveratrol out there. The anti-aging substance is not found primarily in its juice, though, it is also found also in its skin and seeds. A good way to get these benefits is to get a good pomegranate supplement that concentrates these parts as well as just the juice. One of the drawbacks is that it doesn’t slow all the key mechanisms of aging (Not slowing AGE proteins). Source

Natural News Say This about The Benefits of Pomegranates

Pomegranates effectively lower blood pressure in a manner similar to GSE and resveratrol as the juice and extracts contain powerful polyphenols that counteract oxidative stress. This magical fruit also is found to lower circulating levels of the angiotensin hormone that can help blood vessels to relax. The result of a study published in the journal Atherosclerosis demonstrated that consumption of pomegranate juice (50 ml per day for 2 weeks) lowered ACE activity by 36%, leading to a 5% drop in systolic blood pressure.

And finally this article on the health benefits of Resveratrol and Pomegranates

A previous study from our lab has shown that the polyphenol-rich pomegranate juice can protect the neonatal mouse brain against hypoxic-ischemic (H-I) injury when given to mothers in their drinking water. To test the hypothesis that this protection is due to the polyphenols in the juice, we studied the effects of the pomegranate polyphenol extract in the same neonatal H-I model. To further explore the role of a specific polyphenol in neonatal H-I we investigated the effects of resveratrol. The neuroprotective effects of resveratrol have been demonstrated in adult models of stroke but had not previously been examined in neonates. We show that pomegranate polyphenols and resveratrol reduce caspase-3 activation following neonatal H-I. Resveratrol reduced caspase-3 activation when given before the injury but not when given 3 h after the injury. In addition to preventing caspase-3 activation, resveratrol also reduced calpain activation. Finally, we show that resveratrol can protect against tissue loss measured at 7 days after the injury. These and other recent findings suggest that polyphenols should be further investigated as a potential treatment to decrease brain injury due to neonatal H-I.

We have enjoyed the health benefits of resveratrol for many years now. Have you? If you feel that adding resveratrol to your daily health regimen might be beneficial and would like a high quality certified organic product that includes certified organic freeze-dried pomegranate powder as a source of resveratrol we recommend BerryRadical Antioxidant Superfood by Miessence!

Good Health is a Duty For Your Best Life!

Good Health Is A Duty For Your Best Life!

good healthToday more than ever we must ask ourselves the question – is good health a duty for your best life? I say yes. Here’s why!

“To keep the body in good health is a duty . . . otherwise, we shall not be able to keep our mind strong and clear.”   Buddha (563?-483? BC)

My name is Wendy Bottrell and today I am a Holistic Health Performance Coach, nutrition coach, very active in my life, running a business, training, and taking care of an ailing senior.    However, this has not always been the case. There was a time in my life when I did not have good health!

I was the kid who caught a cold in September and had it all the way through the winter when it was gone in May just in time for allergy season to begin.  I was the kid who was a terrible eater and this continued through most of the first half of my life.  And I was very athletic as a kid, playing many sports for both recreations and in school, so this was a big a challenge.   In my late teens and early twenties, I was drinking a case of coke and eating potato chips for breakfast.    I smoked, was overweight and had a very poor diet, lived under a great deal of stress which led to just not being well.

My Good Health Journey Began Here

In ’95 I was in my second car accident within an 8-month time frame and this was the life changing moment.  My moment of change came on impact with the second car accident.  Over the months to come the muscle pain, exhaustion and overall sense of just not feeling well taking over my life.   I have always been an active person yet after the accidents I was not able to go for a walk for 20 minutes without coming home and just sleeping for hours and I was in a lot of pain.   These accidents were the beginning of change for me because at that time.   I made the decision to go into the nutritional supplement business.  It was the start of my education on living well.

I made the decision to go into the nutritional supplement business.  It was the start of my education on living well.  Supplements, in the beginning, were a very simple way to change.

Because our company produces high-quality nutritional products, I was not taking in any prescription drugs and today, 15 years later I am very happy to say I am still prescription drug-free and feeling great,  still taking in good nutritional products every day. I have lost over 70 pounds, am very active in life again. I train regularly, do some boxing, have reffed women’s hockey for the past 10 years and in 2002 I was certified as a Personal Trainer and Registered Nutrition Consultant. Today I am certified as a Personal Trainer with 2 separate associations, certified in Kickboxing, Boxing, and Bosu, have 3 certifications in Nutrition consulting and a Certified Master Trainer. I have 20 years experience in the business world and trained as a Life Coach.

If we are going to look at health first we must have the definition:  What does it mean to be healthy?

“The Health Promotion Agency strongly supports the view of the World Health Organization (WHO) that health is a state of complete physical, mental and social wellbeing, and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity. It agrees that health is a fundamental human right and that the attainment of the highest possible level of health is a most important world-wide social goal whose realization requires the action of many other social and economic sectors in addition to the health sector. Those working to promote health generally see it as a resource for everyday life, not the object of living. It is a positive concept emphasizing social and personal resources as well as physical capabilities.Reference: Ottawa charter for health promotion. WHO, Geneva, 1986.”

When I work with clients they don’t seem to understand this.  Most will tell me when I first meet with them they are really healthy and as we begin to get to know each other all kinds of challenges they have come to the surface.  From headaches that come on a regular basis, colds that never really go away, allergies, asthma, lack of energy…and more.  So I decided to put some info together that might help them and you become a little more healthy.

Define Good Health With The 6 Foundations

As a Holistic Health Performance Coach, we believe there are 6 Foundations for your good health that must be mastered. This is a lifelong journey that begins to realize what they are and how you can begin.
good health is a duty

HYDRATION For Good Health

Water by definition is clear, colorless, odorless and tasteless.  If what you are drinking does not meet this standard change your water source.  Oh, maybe a glass or bottle of water never touches your lips? Consider this, water makes up 2/3 of the weight of the human body and without it, humans would die in a few days.  A small drop in the body’s water supply can trigger signs of dehydration: fuzzy short-term memory, difficulty with basic math and problems focusing on smaller print like the computer screen.  Mild dehydration is one of the most common causes of daytime fatigue.  It is estimated that 75% of North Americans have mild, chronic dehydration.  The body converts fat into energy and releases fat IN WATER. Your body fights disease and toxins in the water.  All of your body’s functions have to happen in water.  Water forms the fluids that surround the joints, and it helps lessen constipation by moving food through the intestinal tract and thus eliminating waste – the best detox agent.  Water regulates metabolism.

It is estimated that 75% of North Americans have mild, chronic dehydration.  The body converts fat into energy and releases fat IN WATER. Today most people can’t tell the difference from being hungry or being thirsty and generally will eat something to satisfy the feeling.  When what they must do is drink at least a glass water to correct the dehydration.  If the feeling of hunger comes upon you firstly have a glass of water.  After 20 minutes if you are still feeling hungry then eat as you now are in fact hungry.

How Much Water To Drink For Good Health?

We need to drink ½ our body weight in ounces water every day and if we exercise, or have a physically active job then one must add more water.  How do you do this?    It can be very simple.  On waking have a glass of water, at the start of each meal, (breakfast, lunch and dinner) drink a glass of water, this will not only get you drinking your water it will also fill you up and eat less at your meal, with each snack have a glass of water, and before going to bed.  When you exercise you will add more water at least 2 glasses of water. When you drink coffee or alcohol drink 2 glasses of water.  Don’t drink soda pop, sports drinks, or any of the other sweet drinks.

Now if you are not drinking water you will be challenged to start drinking 8-10 glasses a day when you start and it is always my suggestion for my clients to start slow.  Add 2 glasses a day do this for a few days then move up to 3 and so on.  You will go to the washroom more, however, I promise if you stick with it and get to your 8 glass minimum target it will be so worth it.  Remember drinking water is giving you the gift of life.  Hydration!

Eating The Second Foundation of Good Health

Today It’s So SAD!  Standard American Diet

Typical SAD diet does not provide sufficient nutrient levels to support optimal health

Study of a 100-bed sub-acute care hospital

  • 8% well nourished
  • 29% malnourished
  • 63% at risk of malnutrition
  • 92% either malnourished or at risk of being malnourished!  Where do you fit?

good healthHippocrates said, “Let food be your medicine and medicine be your food”.    What happened to this philosophy?  When did we stop eating food for our good health and start using food for our bad health?  Good Food is not the enemy!

Did you know that 80% of wellness is what you put into your body through food and drink?   Eating 3 meals and 2 snacks daily with breakfast being the most important for a healthier you, with more energy through the whole day.

“Eat breakfast like a King/Queen, lunch like a prince/princess and supper like a pauperfor good health.

Eating breakfast means eating less for the rest of the day.  Studies have shown that skipping breakfast actually cause people to eat more food, have higher levels of cholesterol and are more insulin – resistant.  Over time means more weight gain, more heart disease, more inflammation and all the other age-related diseases.   Eating bigger meals later in the day are less satisfying and will lead to eating more food and if the foods are empty calories, i.e. Refined foods * donuts, sugars will tend to eat more.

Learn what portions are when eating breakfast, lunch, and dinner.  Tennis Ball=serving of fruit or vegetables or cereal, Hockey Puck=1 bagel or 1 serving pasta, rice cereal, Four Dice= 1 serving of cheese, Bar of Soap=1 serving of meat, chicken or fish, Computer mouse=1 medium potato, 2 cassette tapes=2 servings of bread.

Protein, Carbohydrates, fats at each meal.  And by the way, fat does not make you fat.

As long as we are talking about Eating let’s talk about vitamins and supplements.  We have already discussed that 92% of the population is either malnourished or at risk of being malnourished!  That means that people are not getting the nutrition they need on a daily basis for good health, let alone great health.  Taking a multivitamin is simply Bridging the Gap Between the Food you Eat and What is No Longer in That Food for Your Good Health.

The number vary however there are least 6 -10 to 8-10 people who go to see their primary care provided because of nutritionally related illness.  It is not a question anymore about getting the vitamins, minerals and trace elements from our food.  We must take high-quality supplements.  The other supplement that might be considered in a powerful antioxidant.  Resveratrol and Ellagic Acid would be 2 that I would recommend.  The supplements I recommend to my clients, friends and family can be found

AVOID eating the following for your good health:

Enriched flour: white flour, white flour products like pasta, white rice, white bread and even brown bread.  Just because it is brown bread doesn’t mean it isn’t white flour.

High fructose corn syrup:

It is absorbed more quickly than regular sugar and enters the cells without any help.  It doesn’t require the help of insulin the way glucose does.  HFCS becomes uncontrolled once inside the cells and makes cholesterol shoot up, causing problems with the liver that then slows down the metabolism.  HFCS does not tell the brain you, you are full as readily, one just stays hungry and keeps eating more sugar or HFCS allowing the cycle to continue.

Artificial Sweeteners:

Aspartame, sucralose, in fact, may lead to increased intake of foods and calories

Hydrogenated partially hydrogenated oils:

Which become trans fat in the blood stream, cookies, cakes crackers, etc

Sugar:

Did you know that 100 grams of sugar will suppress the immune function of your white blood cells known as neutrophils and this is your first line of defense against bacterial infection?  Drinking about 2 cans of pop or juice will know them out by almost 50%.  This starts about 30 minutes after drinking and will last up to 5 hours.  So you if have an immune challenge or work in an environment where having a strong immune system will keep you in top shape another reason to eliminate or reduce sugar intake.

Salt:

Sodium chloride is the salt you will find in commercial table salt.  It has been processed at high temperatures, which change it at a molecular level and remove vital minerals,  Excess commercial table salt intake has been associated with high blood pressure, fluid retention, heart and kidney disease.

Live In The Moment For Your Good Health

“The secret of health for both the mind and body is not to mourn for the past, not to worry about the future, not to anticipate troubles, but to live the present moment wisely and earnestly.”- Buddha

Today we are hearing more and more about being present.  Be present with work, be present with your family, friends.  Being present with your job, your family, friends, will increase productivity, and allow you to live with less stress.  Have you heard the term ‘forced mediocrity”?  Going at such a fast pace at all that you do nothing you do is done well.  Or maybe you know someone that lives with “forced mediocrity”.  It can be very frustrating for the one living in that state all the time and it is certainly frustrating and not enjoyable to live with them or be around them.  There just seems to be a frustration that won’t go away.

Slow down, do one thing well and then move on.  Take time for you and ask yourself-”How I am feeling today” – Take the time to notice any discomfort, aches, pains, and take notes, I just heard today that this is more effective for better health than any medical procedure that might be done to solve your health issue.  Write it down and include feelings so when you go back you will see the activity, the feelings and now you will make positive changes.

One of the easiest ways to be present is through your breath.  To learn how to breath take 1 hand put it on your chest, the other hand on belly just below the belly button,  breathing in through nose for a count of 4, feeling your chest and belly expand,  hold for a count of 4 and breathe out through pursed lips for a count of 8, noticing all the air leaving your body, right from your belly.

Being in the moment when you are eating – ask- are you hungry, stressed, looking for comfort, sad.  Chew your food so it becomes liquid so it can be digested very easily.  Take in the food with the focus that the food is bringing you healing, energy and wellness.

Be in the moment with an activity or exercise program- enjoy these moments.  Allow yourself to be energized by the program.  Have fun, move, feel, notice what changes happen to you and for you.

We always want to be where we are not and this habit creates forced mediocrity at all things.

“To keep the body in good health is a duty . . . otherwise, we shall not be able to keep our mind strong and clear.”  Buddha (563?-483? BC)

It would be great to hear from you. How do you feel about the idea that good health is a duty?
